Memento Mori is a Latin phrase that means “remember that you must die.” Yet behind these few simple words lies a deep philosophy that has echoed through centuries of human thought, art, and reflection.

Remember that you too will one day return to dust.
This reminder was not meant to humiliate the victorious, but to keep them grounded in humility. Power, fame, and success can intoxicate the human spirit, but the knowledge of mortality restores balance. When we remember that our time is limited, arrogance dissolves, and gratitude takes its place.
